Haiti Disaster Relief
In light of the recent devastation that has shattered the country of Haiti, International Relief Services is currently spearheading a project to provide them with food, medical supplies, clothing and toiletries. Many relief organizations from all over the world have rallied to the aid of this country with the hope of bringing assistance to the hurting masses. With this overwhelming response, much of the aid is having difficulty getting into the country. International Relief sees this as an opportunity to help and be the solution on the ground after the dust has settled and much of the aid and workers have returned home. We hope to send supplies immediately and more importantly, to provide relief for rebuilding.
This project is being facilitated at our warehouse located in Annapolis, Maryland where for the past year we have been collecting non-perishables and sealing them in 55 gallon drums for shipment. We have also been in the process of gathering medical supplies and with the help of many volunteers in the local area, are getting them inventoried and ready for shipment as well.
We are in desperate need of volunteers, additional niche supplies, equipment and financing to ensure the success of this mission. If you are interested in participating on any level you can reach out to us. We will be grateful for the opportunity to partner with you.
Project Updates
A message from the founder of International Relief Services, Inc.
We loaded our first truck today, January 27th, 2010, with 9 pallets, 5900 pounds of medical supplies.
It will arrive in Alexandria, LA where the Medical Mission Team bases. The medical supplies will be flown in by a C-130 aircraft within the next week. The Medical Missions Team left on January 26th, 2010 to set up two staging locations. One in Barahona, Dominican Republic and the other in Bon Repo, Haiti. This is a joint effort with our organization, Medical Missions Team, and Med Express, which is owned and operated by Mark Majors from South Louisiana. We have had a great response from local churches, businesses and individuals that have helped with labor, donations and in-kind gifts. Some hotels in Annapolis are offering free overnight stays for volunteers from out of the area, and local restaurants are also offering to supply lunch. The response is continuing to increase, which is good but it makes for long days. We are grateful for the effort that everyone has made toward this relief effort and are hopeful that more will step up as we continue to move ahead.
We are continuing to gather supplies and make it ready for additional shipments that will be leaving from Lake Charles, LA over the next several weeks. It is our goal to continue working on this project to provide assistance immediately but more importantly to provide continued support for the long haul.
Thank You,
J.W.Garrison
Office Equipment to Nigerian Hospital
International Relief Services has been given an opportunity to furnish a new Nigerian hospital with office desks, chairs, filing cabinets etc through the generous donations of a large corporation doing a major remodeling project. This is a brand new project still in the developing stage.
Medical Equipment to Nigerian Doctors
Some eye equipment has been donated to us and with the help of optometrists we are building it into pods that can be transported from village to village to help doctors provide eye care for the poor. Among the donated eye equipment were thousands of eyeglasses to be given to help these poor villagers finally be able to read.
